Mac Mini Power Cord: 33 Listings, One Plug, One Trap
I searched Amazon for "mac mini power cord" and "mac mini m4 power cord", two pages each, with the delivery address set to New York. That gave 87 result slots and 57 distinct listings. 24 of those listings won't plug into a Mac mini at all: three-prong PC cords, iMac power bricks, USB-C chargers, a travel pouch and a Starlink cable. The other 33 are all the same part, a two-prong figure-8 cord that the standard calls IEC C7. Their titles say "Mac mini (2010-2024)", "Apple TV", or "PS5", and the price runs from $5.99 to $24.90 for one connector.
Only 9 of the 33 say the thing that decides whether a cord fits: non-polarized. None of them is labeled polarized. The polarized version did show up, though, in the search you'd run next if the Mac mini goes on a UPS or a rack PDU.
What cord does a Mac mini use?
The Mac mini that runs this business is a base M4, model MU9E3KH/A according to system_profiler. It sits headless on a shelf in Seoul, so I can't look at its cord. What the plug looks like comes from Apple's documents and from the owners quoted below, not from me handling one.
Apple's Mac mini (2024) tech specs list one power input, "100–240V AC", 50 to 60 Hz, "Maximum continuous power: 155W", and a "Power cord (1.8 m)" in the box. The orderable parts list gives that cord a part number, 923-11979, with regional variants for the UK, Italy and continental Europe. The one thing that differs by country is the wall end. The Mac end is the same everywhere.
That Mac end is a figure-8. On an Apple Community thread from March 2025, a new M4 owner asked for replacement specs and got a one-line answer: "That would be a standard non-polarized C7 power cord. Available everywhere." A 2016 thread about the 2014 Mac mini says the same thing ("officially called a C7 but more commonly referred to as a 'figure of eight'"), and so do the Amazon listings, which name models from the 2010 unibody to the M4 Pro on one cord.
Polarized vs non-polarized C7
The IEC 60320 C7 has two round lobes and is rated 2.5 A at 250 V. A polarized variant with one squared-off lobe exists, and the standard doesn't include it. The two don't fit each other both ways. A round cord goes into a squared inlet, but a squared cord won't go into a round inlet like the one on a Mac mini. This has already caught people. In a 2019 thread about finding a one-foot Mac mini cord, the first suggestion was a short cord from SF Cable. The person who asked checked it and replied, "This is one is polarized (which won't work)", then found the non-polarized version on the same site.
What 33 Amazon listings actually say
I read the title, bullet points and details table of all 33 listings. They sort into three groups by which devices they name.

The groups are marketing, not hardware. A cord listed for the 2014 Mac mini is the same C7 as one listed for the M4, and the M4-named listings cost about $1.50 more at the median. One title even names MU9E3LL/A, the US version of my exact configuration. The listings also copy each other's wording. Three ALYYDBG listings share one 238-rating pool, and three LORDTRONICS console cords share 6,466.
Current is also not a reason to pay more. Apple's 155 W maximum works out to 1.55 A at 100 V and 1.29 A at 120 V. That's 52 to 62 percent of the C7's 2.5 A IEC rating, and the listings print 7 A or 10 A under their UL ratings. Any intact, listed C7 cord carries a Mac mini. What actually varies is the length (3 ft to 20 ft in this set), the color, and whether the seller tells you the plug shape.
The genuine Apple part turned up through a web search, not in these results. It's a "Genuine … 923-11979" listing from a seller labeled Generic, at $99.99 with no Add to Cart button. That's about 15 times the cheapest non-polarized cord in the census.
Where the polarized trap is: UPS and PDU cords
A Mac mini on a UPS usually needs no special cord, since consumer UPS units have ordinary wall outlets. Rack PDUs and many rack UPS units have C13 outlets instead. Several builders in my 10 inch rack PDU roundup switched to IEC strips with C13 outlets. A Mac mini on a C13 outlet needs a C14-to-C7 cord, so I ran that search as well. Of 17 organic results for "c14 to c7 power cord", the most-rated one (89 ratings) is titled "…IEC C7 to C14 AC Converter Polarized Adapter". The Tekit family, which ranks first, puts a "C14 to C7 Polarized Adapter" in the same size dropdown as its plain cords. Choose the wrong option there and you get a plug that won't go into a Mac mini.
Look for the words "non-polarized" or "2-slot" in the listing, or check that both lobes in the photo are round. If a listing shows one squared corner, it's the wrong part.
Two complaints owners report
Hard fit. The 2014 owner in the Apple thread bought a UK figure-8 cord that had "shoulders" around the plug, and said it "needs to be shoved in quite brutally, but is now working." Apple's own M4 power supply repair guide has a step for this. After a repair, the technician plugs a cord in and adjusts "the alignment of the AC inlet until the end of the power cord is easy to insert and remove." If a cord only goes in with force, the molding around the plug may be too thick. It doesn't mean the connector is wrong.
A spark on plug-in. On Hacker News, a Mac Studio owner described the power connector arcing badly enough to trip a 30 mA RCD. A reply from an M2 Mac mini owner said "I noticed exactly the same thing on a new Mac mini M2 base model when I conncted the power cord." Another commenter put it down to large input capacitors charging at the moment of contact. That's one Mac mini report and a hardware explanation, not a measurement. It's still a reason to seat the figure-8 in the Mac before plugging the wall end in, so any arc happens at the wall plug. Also, the cord is two-wire, so there's no ground. One commenter noted that "not even the mac mini power cord is" grounded, and said they'd never had an issue.
Which cord to buy

- Wall to Mac mini: the Bicmice 6 ft non-polarized C7 cord was $6.59 on 2026-09-29, with 1,366 ratings at 4.7. It's the cheapest of the nine that state non-polarized, and it's UL listed and 18 AWG. Against it: the listing never names the Mac mini, only TVs and printers, so you're buying it on the connector spec. If you want the shorter 3 ft or 5 ft lengths, TONIWA lists M4-named versions, but they don't state the polarity.
- UPS or PDU with C13 outlets: the Tekit 6.6 ft C14-to-C7 cord was $11.99, with 36 ratings at 4.5. Against it: the cord listing doesn't say "non-polarized". I'm inferring it from the fact that Tekit sells the polarized one as a separate variant. Check the photo before you order.

Why won't my new power cord fit my Mac mini?
