"Is GoPro Quik still supported?" has two answers, and they point in opposite directions. The phone app is very much alive: Quik for iPhone and iPad shipped version 13.43 on 2026-10-20, its 25th release in less than a year. The Mac app stopped. GoPro announced on 2024-11-12 that it was discontinuing Quik for desktop. The Mac build has not changed since version 2.2 on 2024-11-08, which is 717 days as of today. The Windows version GoPro promised at launch was never released.

What GoPro said would happen next did not quite happen, though. The announcement said the Mac app "will be removed from the App Store on Dec. 31". On 2026-10-26 the App Store still renders a Mac page for Quik, with version 2.2, a 245 MB download and "Requires macOS 13.0 or later". To see how long that has been true, I read the version histories of the four GoPro apps that matter on a Mac and pulled 30 archived copies of the Quik App Store page from the Wayback Machine, March 2021 to September 2026. I don't own a GoPro and did not try to download Quik on a fresh Apple ID, so the App Store record below is what the listing shows, not proof that a new account can still install it. Owner experiences come from App Store reviews and a Hacker News thread, linked where they appear.

Release dates of four GoPro apps on the App Store, January 2024 to October 2026 Timeline with one row per app, one dot per release. Quik for Mac has 18 releases from 2024-02-06 to 2024-11-08 and none after. GoPro announced the end of Quik for desktop on 2024-11-12 and set App Store removal for 2024-12-31, both marked as vertical lines. GoPro Player for Mac has 9 releases from February 2024 to 2026-04-30, including 6 after the announcement. GoPro Webcam for Mac has 3 releases, the last on 2024-10-02. Quik for iPhone and iPad shows its 25 most recent releases, from 2025-11-10 to 2026-10-20. 2024 2025 2026 Sunset post 11-12 Removal date 12-31 Quik for Mac 18 builds, last 2.2 GoPro Player for Mac 9 builds, last 3.3.4 GoPro Webcam for Mac 3 builds, last 1.0.2 Quik for iPhone/iPad 25 most recent listed Source: App Store version histories, read 2026-10-26
Every release of four GoPro apps on the App Store, January 2024 to October 2026. Quik for Mac had 18 releases in nine months and none after 2.2. GoPro Player kept shipping. Quik for iPhone and iPad shows only its 25 most recent releases because that is all the App Store lists.

What GoPro announced, and what the App Store still shows

GoPro's news post, GoPro Sunsetting Quik Desktop App, says the company is "discontinuing the Quik Desktop applications to prioritize our mobile apps". It names three things for people who want to stay on a computer. Premiere Pro and After Effects users would get updated 360 plug-ins. Subscribers could reach cloud footage through the web Media Library on gopro.com. Premium+ or HyperSmooth Pro owners keep "GoPro Player + HyperSmooth Pro app for both macOS and Windows". The live page answers scripted requests with a bot check, so I read it from the Wayback Machine's first capture, taken 2024-11-12 at 09:41 UTC. A March 2025 capture has the same text. TechRadar reported it the same day, noting this was the second time: GoPro had already dropped an earlier free desktop version in 2017.

The Mac app had a short life. Digital Camera World covered the launch on 2024-02-06: Mac only, free for GoPro subscribers, $9.99 a year for non-GoPro users who wanted Quik alone, and a Windows version that "will follow later in the year". The App Store history shows 18 Mac builds between 1.0 on 2024-02-06 and 2.2 on 2024-11-08, roughly one every two weeks. The last one shipped four days before the announcement.

The archive captures show the page never lost its Mac listing. Of the 30 monthly captures of the Quik page, the three from 2021 and 2022 have no Mac line, because the Mac version didn't exist yet. All 27 from 2024-02-08 onward list "Mac Requires macOS 13.0 or later", including the 18 taken after the 2024-12-31 removal date:

CapturesCountVersion the page showedMac line
2021-03 to 2022-103iOS 8.0 to 11.1.1None
2024-02-08 to 2024-12-059Mac builds, 2.2 from NovembermacOS 13.0
2025-01-12 to 2025-10-027Mac 2.2 (frozen)macOS 13.0
2025-11-18 to 2026-09-0911iOS 13.24 to 13.40macOS 13.0

The switch in November 2025 is a page change, not a policy change. From then on the page showed the iPhone version by default, and the Mac version is still there today if you ask for the Mac platform. So "removed from the App Store" means the app stopped getting updates. The listing itself stayed up. That is a gentler outcome than DJI Fly on Mac, where DJI pulled the Apple Silicon listing outright. It is also worse than it looks: an app that hasn't changed in two years, with a login and a cloud sync behind it, can stop working whenever the server side changes, and nobody will fix it.

Four GoPro apps on a Mac, by update record

The App Store lists four GoPro apps that matter on a Mac. Their version histories tell you which ones GoPro is still working on:

AppLatest build for MacReleasedNeedsBuilds since the 2024-11-12 announcement
Quik (Mac)2.22024-11-08macOS 130
Quik (iPhone, iPad)13.432026-10-20iOS 1825 in the last 50 weeks alone
GoPro Player3.3.42026-04-30macOS 10.156
GoPro Webcam1.0.22024-10-02macOS 130

GoPro Player is the desktop app GoPro still maintains. It reframes 360 footage, exports it to normal video and adds HyperSmooth Pro stabilization as an in-app purchase. GoPro's 2025-09-25 MAX2 announcement added two Player features for macOS Tahoe 26 and opened a public beta of a ReFrame plug-in for DaVinci Resolve, next to the existing Premiere Pro and After Effects plug-ins. GoPro Webcam is the other stalled app. It has had three builds, all in 2024.

What Mac owners report

The App Store reviews on the Mac Quik page are from people who used it, and they explain why GoPro let it go. A February 2024 reviewer couldn't get it to connect to a HERO5, HERO8 or HERO9, stuck on "Connecting to" with a spinning icon. A March 2024 review titled "Should not have been released" describes choppy playback and having to restore the subscription purchase from the App Store every time they wanted a premium feature. An August 2024 owner gave it four stars but said files in the GoPro cloud were "nearly impossible to work with" on the Mac, so they kept footage on a local drive. A July 2025 reviewer, seven months after the removal date, was still trying the Mac app and complained about the GoPro logo at the end of edits.

The other two Mac apps draw complaints of their own. On GoPro Player, a June 2026 MAX2 owner spent hours on helmet-mounted footage that exported shaky or pointed the wrong way. In January 2026 another found that the batch exporter stamps exported .mp4 files with the export date instead of the recording date (they checked it with ffmpeg). On GoPro Webcam, a March 2026 review says the camera gets a new device ID on every connection, so OBS has to re-add it each session. An August 2026 review says lens choice is the only setting you can control, with no white balance.

The broader complaint showed up in July 2026 in a Hacker News thread on GoPro's decline (234 points, 561 comments). One long-time owner wrote that GoPro and Insta360 both "prioritize mobile apps over their PC software", so editing on a computer means losing features. Another said that after the MAX2 launch "the Quik app got a big overhaul and is quite capable now. But it's still mobile, and Gopro Player (for desktop) is then now even further behind". A third pointed out that DJI still offers desktop software for its Osmo action cameras. How much that software covers is its own story, in DJI Osmo Mac app. Insta360 Studio on Mac, the other rival, got 39 Mac builds between March 2024 and September 2026.

What to use on a Mac instead

If you shoot with a HERO camera, the files on the card are ordinary video and you don't need GoPro software at all. The same HN owner takes HERO5 footage "straight in to any ordinary NLE". The weak link on a Mac is usually reading the card, which has its own problems on a Mac mini SD card reader. The 360 cameras are different. GoPro Player's listing says it imports and exports 360 formats, and the Player reviewer above batch-converts .360 files to .mp4 there before editing in Final Cut Pro. If you edit in Premiere Pro, After Effects or DaVinci Resolve, GoPro's ReFrame plug-ins do the 360 work inside the editor. If you want Quik's automatic highlight edits, those now only exist on a phone or iPad. If you want a GoPro as a Mac webcam, GoPro Webcam is still the only route; my webcam for Mac mini notes cover how macOS treats other brands.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. On 2026-10-26 the GoPro HERO13 Black was $429.00 on Amazon, sold and shipped by Amazon. It is a HERO camera, so its footage is the kind the HN owner above edits without GoPro software. The GoPro MAX2 was $299.99, also sold by Amazon. Being a 360 camera, it does need GoPro Player or a ReFrame plug-in on a Mac, plus the phone app for Quik's automatic edits. Neither listing mentions Quik for desktop.

FAQ

Is GoPro Quik still supported?

The mobile app is. Quik for iPhone and iPad got version 13.43 on 2026-10-20, and GoPro releases updates about every two weeks. Quik for Mac is not. GoPro announced it was discontinuing Quik for desktop on 2024-11-12, and the last Mac build, 2.2, came out on 2024-11-08. A Windows version was never released.

Is there a GoPro Quik desktop app for Mac?

Not one that GoPro maintains. GoPro said Quik for Mac would leave the App Store on 2024-12-31, but in October 2026 the App Store still showed a Mac listing at version 2.2, which requires macOS 13. It has not been updated since November 2024. For desktop work GoPro points to GoPro Player for Mac, its ReFrame plug-ins for Premiere Pro, After Effects and DaVinci Resolve, and the Media Library on gopro.com.

What replaced GoPro Quik on Mac?

No single app. GoPro Player for Mac (version 3.3.4, April 2026, macOS 10.15 or later) handles 360 reframing, export and HyperSmooth Pro. GoPro's ReFrame plug-ins handle 360 footage inside Premiere Pro, After Effects and DaVinci Resolve. Cloud footage is reachable through the Media Library on gopro.com. Footage from HERO cameras opens in any Mac video editor without GoPro software.

How I checked: on 2026-10-26 I read the App Store pages for GoPro Quik (ID 561350520, both the Mac and the iPhone version), GoPro Player (1460836908) and GoPro Webcam (6477835262) and took every release date from their version histories. Quik for Mac lists 18 releases, Webcam 3, and the App Store shows only the latest 25 for Quik on iPhone and for Player. I pulled all 30 monthly Wayback Machine captures of the Quik page (2021-03-16 to 2026-09-09) and checked each for the Mac requirement line and the version it displayed. GoPro's announcement was read from the Wayback captures of 2024-11-12 and 2025-03-28, because the live page blocks scripted requests. GoPro's community support articles load only through JavaScript and are not quoted here. Review quotes come from the App Store pages. HN comments were read through the Algolia API. I did not install Quik, own a GoPro camera, or attempt a new App Store download. Amazon prices and sellers were read from the product pages with a New York 10001 delivery address on the same afternoon.
